Great Scott- Thomas Carty close to confirming exciting Celtic title fight for Katie Taylor undercard

Thomas Carty [4(3)-0] looks to have secured a step-up title fight for the massive May 20 Katie Taylor Homecoming card.

Colourful Scottish heavyweight Jay McFarlane [14(5)-7(1)] says he has agreed to fight the Dubliner on the undercard of the Irish Icon’s much anticipated 3Arena-hosted undisputed light welterweight world title fight with Chantelle Cameron.

Official confirmation has yet to come from Matchroom or indeed Team Carty.

However, McFarlane has said the fight is done and set for the DAZN broadcast Dublin card.

Irish-boxing.com understands an offer has been made to the former Scottish title challenger but the fight has yet to be signed.

Rumour suggests McFarlane rebuffed an offer two weeks ago but he has since been posting on social media about fighting in Dublin on the Taylor-Cameron card.

If the fight does get over the line it’s an ideal clash for the popular Dublin heavy. McFarlane will come to Dublin and talk the talk, he will draw attention to the fight, in turn helping to make sure it gets some spotlight despite being on a stacked card – and most importantly provides the Pascal Colllins trained big man passage to a title.

Indeed, victory would make Carty, who has most recently shared the sparring ring with reigning world champion and former Irish champion Tyson Fury, the first-ever BUI Celtic heavyweight champion.

McFarlane is also a nice step up, a fighter who will ask questions and possibly chin-check the early days Bohemians supporter. He will also have a go in patches, yet still, he is a heavyweight Carty will be confident of beating and looking well against.

The Scott did give ‘The Bomb’s’ sparring partner Nick Campbell a tough fight when challenging for the Scottish title – but was ultimately stopped by the former rugby international.

Carty first has an April 22 date to deal with, so official confirmation may be pending victory in York Hall.
