Conlon excited by pro debut

Jamie Conlon is ‘busting’ ahead of his professional debut on November 6.
The former amateur standout makes his bow on the undercard of Martin Rogans rematch with Sam Sexton and, speaking to irish-boxing.com, is confident of making a good first impression on Irish fight fans.
“I took a week off after the fight was put back (from October 9),” he said. “I was flying. I had been sparring for two weeks up to that with Andy Murray, then when the call came I started to wind down a bit.
“But Ive now started to wind up a bit again. Ive sold loads of tickets so now Im just busting.”
The event will take place at Belfasts Odyssey Arena, a venue Conlon is very familiar with.
“I went to watch the World Championships there when I was a kid. I also went to watch Rogie there when I was still an amateur then John asked me to turn professional.”
As well as ditching the headguard and vest, Conlon will also have to take care of other aspects of his game such as entrance music, shorts and nicknames.
“Ive been asking Kevin OHara what to do,” he joked. “Do I pick a song and give them a CD? And then there is shorts and names to consider.
“I dont really have a nickname. Neil Sinclair has been trying to give me one. But then his isnt great I mean it didnt take much imagination to come up with ‘Sinky’! He was saying Jamie ‘boy’ but I dont know….”
