“Who else is out there that you can fight?” Agyarko calls out Spike O’Sullivan

Caoimhin Agyarko [12(7)-0] says he can offer Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan [31(21)-5(4)] a chance to become relevant again.

The Belfast light middleweight has been vocal about wanting to share the ring with domestic foes of late, with world title challengers Jason Quigley, Luke Keeler, and the Cork light middles names been mentioned by both Eddie Hearn and the Belfast man since spring of this year.

Considering both are now down at 154lbs, the Mahon man seems to have become the main Irish target for Team Agyarko – and is a fight both the Matchroom boss and his fighter want.

It’s unsure as to whether Spike’s manager and coach Pascal Collins has received a formal offer but if one has been made or is forthcoming, Liverpool-based Agyarko is adamant they should accept it. He argues he is the Rebel County man’s best option at this stage of his career.

“Why not? Where does he go from here? Who does fight? When was the last time Spike won a fight? When was the last time he won a meaningful fight?” Agyarko says when asked about the fight by Irish-boxing.com.

“I’m not being disrespectful towards him because I like him and I appreciate his boxing style, he adds keen to try maintain a respectful tone when discussing the 36-year-old who was last seen losing to Erislandy Lara in a WBA world middleweight title fight.

“It would be an honor to share the ring with him but where does he go from here? What is what are his other options? How does he rebuild? Beat someone like me who’s an up-and-coming prospect who a lot of people rate and who has the backing you kind of put yourself back in the mix at light middle.

“Who else is out there that you can fight? I don’t think there is anyone?”

O’Sullivan, who holds all Irish wins over Ciaran Healy, Robbie Long and Anthony Fitzgerald, hasn’t publically commented on the fight. Irish-boxing.com understands he would be open to it. However, his team are confident they can secure him the winner of Dennis Hogan versus Sam Eggington, which takes place Down Under in October.

Indeed, it’s been suggested Sky are pushing for the Brit to fight the Cork fighter if he beats the Kildare favourite on a massive No Limit Card.

Agyarko is said to be out again on October 29 on the undercard of Katie Taylor’s latest outing in London, which could a tempting platform for O’Sullivan.

However, the Matchroom fighter doesn’t believe the always value for money Munster man will take the fight.

“I think it’s a fight that they might out price themselves from,” he adds “Listen Eddie’s not going to pay silly money to make that happen and I feel like Spikes probably got good enough money to fight your Lara’s, your Billy Joe Saunders and your Chris Eubank Jrs

“That’s why I don’t think it will happen they will outprice themselves.”

There are some within Irish boxing who have suggested Agyarko should be careful what he wishes for, claiming the Pascal Collins trained puncher is a massive step up and has the power, craft and nouse to win any meeting between the pair.

The Liverpool-based 154lbs fighter says he is well aware it’s a dangerous fight and one he would have to perform in to win.

“It would be a great fight. I don’t think it’s an easy fight for me Spike’s dangerous he can he can whack and you’ve got to be switched on against someone like Spike. He’s a lot more experienced than he’s been in with higher opposition and held his own at in certain stages, so it’s not an easy fight at all from me.”
