Irish Professional Boxers Association with Chris Rock is delighted to announce that our inaugural professional boxing show will take place on the 18th of June 2011 at Salthill Leisure Centre, Galway.
This show is the first of a number of shows the IPBA will hold over the next twelve months as it hopes to keep Irish boxers busy while they wait for an opportunity to come about with title fights or ever Prizefighter positions should the opportunity arise.
Ring announcer on the night is renowned boxing expert Harry McGavock, Who was delighted to come on board to help with this show.
The I.P.B.A was set up to help Irish boxers in promoting shows with the cooporation of the participating boxers, This is a new concept in that the home boxers receive an equal percentage of the show profits at the end of the night.
Irish fans will get to see the most talked about Irish Boxers featuring the highly-charged main event featuring Mullingars J.J Slick McDonagh against Ballymenas Joe Sweet Rea at Super Middleweight over six rounds. Both boxers are well respected in the professional game and this is a fight that will go down to the wire.
Alan The Tribesman Donnellan the much talked about and fancied Light Middleweight from Galway will be up against Ricky Boulter from England. Boulter has already faced Irish boxers in Phil Townley, Ian Boyd and Jeff Thomas in the last two years.
Exciting Galway boxer Jon Fogg will face Jody Meikle at Cruiserweight over four rounds. Jon is a very exciting boxer and you can expect sparks in this fight as Jon looks for a stoppage win on his home venue.
Also on the card is Galways Colm Keane against Englands John Anthony at Heavyweight, Colm is a former American Golden gloves champion and an explosive fighter, Colm is back in the ring after a long lay off due to injury and managerial problems. Colm has a vast amount of boxing experience from Stateside and will need all his ring craft to dispose of Anthony within the six rounds.
Galway based Mayoman Michael The Storm Sweeney will cause a storm as he faces Jamie Norkett at Light Heavyweight. Michael is now back to his natural weight after campaigning at Cruiserweight for his Irish title challenge back in march of this year.
Mayos Finbarr The Rock Eade the Irish Super Featherweight contender is up against the tough durable Bulgarian Stoyan Serbezov who lost to Willie Casey on points 2009.The rock is looking for an Irish title in 2011 so a win here will set him up nicely.
Another Mayo boxer is Light Heavyweight John Warrior Waldron a former Irish champion who faces James Tucker, Tucker has already been in with Irish boxers, Robbie Long, Jason McCalmon, Darren Cruise, Carl Dilks, Martin Murray and boxed John in 2009 and lost on points, so this is a real grudge match for Tucker as he looks for revenge.
Making his debut at Light Middleweight is Shannons Martin The Cannon Hannon when he faces Donegals Mickey Doherty over four rounds. This is an intriguing battle as both fighters are hungry for a victory on home soil.
Highly fancied Light Heavyweight prospect Paddy The Smiling McDonagh will face Dean Walker from England over six rounds. Paddy is the youngest brother of J.J. McDonagh and is also the youngest professional boxer in Ireland. The Smiling Paddy McDonagh is a boxer of the future and we are expecting big things from this lad as he climbs up the rankings.
The ever present and experienced Belfast middleweight boxer Lee Murtagh who is based in Leeds faces Costas Osben from England over four rounds. Lee a former two time Irish title challenger and former BBBofC Central Area light middleweight champion and Central Area middleweight champion along with been the former British Masters Light Middleweight and British Masters Middleweight champion. Lee is one of them exciting boxers that can make a show, never a dull fight when Murtaghs in the ring, so expect another cracker.
