McVarnock expecting to face troublesome ‘Devil Child’ tonight

Ciaran McVarnock [10(3)-0-1] is ready for the best version of scyzophrenic journey man Jaime Quinn [7(0)-106(3)-2].

The Belfast featherweight returns after two years out of the ring against a fighter their respective records suggest he should defeat.

Quinn has lost over one hundred fights and had his hand raised only seven times in a six-year career. However, those inside the game are aware the journeyman has Area or even English title ability and is dangerous when he blows hot rather than cold.

A hot, bigger, motivated and more active Quinn would prove a test for a fighter returning after such a long layoff – and it’s that type of Quinn ‘Bunty’ is banking on turning up tonight.

He expects the ‘Devil Child’ to be up for battle.

“I’m expecting the hot version of Jamie Quinn,” McVarnock told Irish-boxing.com.

“I respect him. I respect any fighter that steps through those ropes. It’s not an easy way to make money and it takes an awful lot of balls. I do expect a hot Jamie Quinn. He is a lot better than what his record suggests and when in there I know he is going to be a lot stronger than me. He is naturally the heavier guy.”

Taking all that into account, McVarnock is expecting to be taken the distance on the Fightzone broadcast card.

“I don’t expect to knock Jamie Quinn out. He has been in there with a lot of big punchers and heavier fighters than myself and he has survived pretty easy enough, so if a stoppage came along for me that would be a huge statement.”

Those rounds may prove ideal in terms of ridding the Belfast operator of any rust, which would in turn pave the way for a step up.

Before his sabbatical, McVarnock was a 10(3)-0-1 fighter on the verge of some interesting action – and he suggests he will return to that point once he secures victory tonight.

“It will be onto bigger things after this . You will see that I’m ready to step things up after this performance.”
