Former heavyweight champion of the world to relocate to Dublin

Former heavyweight champion of the world Joseph Parker is Dublin bound.

The New Zealander is set to make the Irish capitail his home as he looks to continue his new working relationship with Andy Lee.

Parker and the former WBO middleweight world champion turned coach teamed up together a number of weeks ago after heavyweight world champ and the last man to hold the Irish heavyweight title, Tyson Fury recommended the Kronk graduate to ‘Lupesoliai La’auliolemalietoa’.

As a result, the 29-year-old has worked under Lee in Dublin and Morcombe ahead of his massive clash with Derek Chisora, which tops a Sky Sports PPV bill this coming Saturday.

Parker seems impressed with what he has learnt under ‘teacher’ Lee and wants to prolong the relationship. In fact according to Lee, in order to continue working together, the former WBO world titleholder will relocate to Dublin directly after Saturday’s clash and will be joined by his young family soon after. Lee told BBC Radio 5 Live that Parker would move to the Irish capital and continue to train under the Limerick man.

It’s positive news for the likes of fellow Lee-trained fighters Jason Quigley and Paddy Donovan, who can only benefit from having a high-profile heavyweight in camp. Not to mention the Irish big men, who may now have access to a world-class heavyweight sparring partner. The likes of Niall Kennedy, Thomas Carty, Tommy McCarthy, and so on should get rounds with the former world champ.

Speaking on how impressed he has been with Lee, Parker said:

“He’s a trainer and a teacher. He has a lot of knowledge of the boxing game, and a lot of experience, having been a fighter himself and WBO champion.’h

“He has added a few things, corrected a few things, and I feel like, with what he is teaching me, I can get the win.

“He saw a few things and is trying to complement what I have in my arsenal. Tyson asked how I liked the recommendation, I told him “Perfect”.’
