Former underage standouts register debut wins on Warren card

Jason Harty and Edward Donovan both got their careers off to winning starts in England last night.

The brothers in law were brothers in arms as they went to battle in the pro ranks on the same card for the first time.

The Limerick pair both managed points wins early on the Frank Warren card in the Copper Box Arena.

Harty outpointed journeyman Kearon Thomas over four rounds. The 2019 National Elite Champion hurt his hand early in the fight but still cruised to victory.

Donovan, who like Harty won European honours at underage level, dropped his foe but couldn’t get MMA convert Matthew King out of there and settled for a debut points win.

The Irish fight fans disappointed with the lack of pre-fight Queensbury fanfare the two former underage standouts received ahead of the clash were equally as disappointed to see neither secure a TV slot.

Regardless the pair, who officially turned over as far back as last February, will just be content to have punched for pay and to take the first steps along what could be very successful pro journeys.

At just 19 and 20 respectively the middleweights have time to win over the powers that be in Warren’s promotional company and persuade them they are fighters worth backing and promotional hype.

The wins see both Limerick men progress to 1-0, King slips to 0-1 while Thomas drops to 1-11-1.
