‘F**king unbelievable puncher’ – Frampton hails Cacace sparring ahead of Herring bout

Carl Frampton says sparring Anthony Cacace has forced him to ‘switch on’ well over a month out from his shot at history.

‘The Jackal’ is mid week four of training camp for a yet to be officially confirmed clash with WBO super featherweight world champion Jamel Herring.

Terms for a world title fight, which provides Frampton with the chance to become Ireland’s first three weight world champion, have been agreed and a date is forthcoming.

Both the champion and challenger have confirmed they are in camp with late January/early February in mind.

Frampton previously earmarked Cacace, a fighter he has often heralded as a talent, as perfect sparring for the much taller Herring – and has had him for rounds already.

Speaking about sparring the fighter, who himself has a big fight on the horizon, a first British super featherweight title defence against Leon Woodstock, Frampton confirmed he got ‘quality work’ in.

“Quality quality work,” said Frampton.

“Anto just switches and does what you want him to do, he can fight orthodox or southpaw, can fight at distance can fight inside, but what he is, is a fucking unbelievable puncher’, so it switches me on.

“I was switched on, my feet were good, I was sharp, my defence was good. I am happy enough with how it all went.”
