Ándale – Joe Ward keeping busy in Mexico – unique talent makes it two knockout wins in a week

Joe Ward registered his second win in the space of a week over the weekend.

Ward doubled his win and knockout tallies with a second successive victory in Mexico.

The light heavyweight prospect made a surprise return to the ring in Tijuana last Saturday week, registering his first professional victory out of the blue.

The Moate BC graduate stopped Luis Alberto Velasco in the first round in Guadalajara to put his freak injury inspired debut defeat, suffered on a televised American card, well and truly behind him.

Ward was in stoppage mood again over the weekend. Irish-boxing.com have been informed he registered a second successive first knockout down Mexico way on Saturday gone.

Information with regard to who Ward fought has yet to be revealed, as he his team continue to keep things under wraps.

It’s another low key, out of the spotlight victory for the unique talent, one his management, Times Square Boxing or his promoters, Lou DiBella and Ken Casey, have yet to comment on.

The fight certainly wasn’t pushed or advertised and it appears Team Ward want to add some gloss to a record, that’s only blip is an injury enforced one, before returning to America.

Official details surrounding the fight have yet to be revealed, but are expected to confirmed shortly.

Speaking to Bernard O’Neill after the first Mexican win Adam Glenn, who worked Ward’s corner alongside Jimmy Payne, did reveal Mexico may provide a temporary home for the Westmeath man’s clashes.

Glenn said: “We took the fight at short notice and we kept it under wraps. We might have him fight again in Mexico in a couple of weeks. We’re talking about it now.

“We want to get him another win or two. After that, we’re going to be bringing him over to the States and start to get on course; bigger and better fights.”

Mexico has proved a keep busy venue for a number of Irish fighters in recent years. The likes of Dylan Moran, James Power and Vladimir Belujsky and more have traded leather in Tijuana of late.
