Expert in all things Paul Hyland – Liam Walsh claims he has continually studied ‘Hylo’
Liam Walsh [23(15)-1(1)] suggests he is a Paul Hyland Jr [20(7)-2(2)] expert.
The English fighter, who takes on ‘Hylo’ for the lightweight British title on February 19 next year, revealed he has been watching the Belfast operator for sometime now.
With the ever entertaining former British and European title challenger competing at the same weight, the former super featherweight Lonsdale belt holder has kept him on his radar.
And having followed the Mark Dunlop managed fighters career, the 34-year-old southpaw expects a tough fight come February of next year.
“I know a lot about Paul Hyland Jnr. He is someone I’ve always kept an eye on as I thought our paths might cross one day. I’m expecting a very hard fight.”
Walsh’s last outing was a win over recent Jono Carroll defeater Maxi Hughes. That fight played out in November of lat year, meaning the former Gervonta Davies foe hasn’t traded leather in 2020.
He admits he has been frustrating, but doesn’t think the inactivity will hamper his chances against Hyland.
“I’m grateful to be fighting so early in the new year especially with the current conditions. Big shout out to MTK Global for continuing to put shows on in these hard times.
“I was pencilled in to fight in March this year but the show eventually got pulled due to the coronavirus. It’s been frustrating not fighting but on the positive side I’ve managed to train throughout and spend time with my family, and now I’m ready for this fight.”
Hyland, who was stopped by Lewis Ritson when he challenged for the same title in the summer of 2018.
The 30-year-old is delighted to have a second shot at the strap and is confident he win it this time around.
“I’m very excited to have a date and a shot at the British title again. I’ve got this chance to be back in the ring against Liam Walsh, so I can’t wait.
“Walsh is a world level fighter and is a former British and Commonwealth champion, so he’s very good, but I’m confident for this fight.”
