Massive Canelo complement for Caoimhin Agyarko

Rising middleweight prospect Caoimhin Agyarko [8(5)-0] has received a Canelo complement.

The Belfast fighter has been ‘invited’ to spar super middleweight talent Callum Smith ahead of his massive clash with possible the biggest name in the sport at present, Saul ‘Canello’ Alvarez.

The 23-year-old will act as a key sparing partner for the Liverpool native ahead of the December 19 bout.

It’s a massive compliment to Agyarko, who last week made it eight wins from eight by stopping Robbie Chapman, as it suggests diligent coach Joe Gallagher views him as similar in approach to possibly the pound for pound best on the planet.

Interestingly enough it’s not the first time Agyarko was deemed a Canelo clone, Billy Joe Saunders looked to spar ‘Black Thunder’ when it appeared he was on course to fight the Mexican superstar.

“It’s unbelievable that someone like Callum Smith has invited me to spar with him and it’s good that I’m being regarded as having a style that is similar to one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world,” Agyarko told David Kelly of the Belfast Telegraph.

“Immediately after the win over Chapman, Smith’s trainer Joe Gallagher was on wanting me to be part of the camp,” adds the London based 160lbs fighter.

Agyarko won’t be just doing the youngest of the boxing brothers favour, he claims the sparring will prove beneficial to him at this stage of his career.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to gain a lot of experience and it has come at a great time in my career. I want to pick up as much as I can working with Callum, who is someone at the very top of the sport.”
