‘I couldn’t care less’ – Katie Taylor ignores Delfine Persoon’s change of tune
Katie Taylor [16(6)-0] says anyone that scored her rematch with Delfine Persoon for the Belgian ‘doesn’t know anything about boxing’.
The undisputed lightweight world champion shared another thrilling 10 rounds with the teak tough trader during Matchroom’s Fight Camp series.
Whilst the fight was, like the first, very entertaining Taylor won it wider on the scorecards.
Indeed, immediately after the clash Persoon accepted defeat and was full of praise for the Irish sensation.
“This time I respect the result,” Persoon said soon after the fight.
“She has my respect this time she deserves to win. I have no problem [with the result].”
However, upon returning home and potentially after hearing Sky had her up in the clash, Persoon changed her tune and claimed victory.
When asked about the about turn during a virtual press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Miriam Gutierrez, Taylor revealed she paid no heed to anyone claiming she lost the high profile repeat.
“I couldn’t care less really what the opponents are saying afterwards. It was a very clear victory, and anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know anything about boxing really,” said Taylor before assessing her performance.
“I was very very happy with my performance. I thought my head movement was good on the night. I probably stayed there a bit too long, but overall it was a very solid performance.”
