Sean McComb to fight for major title in January

Sean McComb [11(5)-0] will have the chance to cement his status as a rapid riser after being handed a title fight in January.

‘The Public Nuisance’ has impressed massively since turning over in late 2018. He has been tested regularly since fight number 4 and has handled continuous step ups in such a manner, many predict world title success for the Belfast lightweight.

Come January he will have the chance to add something tangible to the many words of praise, by winning a significant title.

According to a report in the Sunday Life, the southpaw will challenge for the vacant Commonwealth title on a behind closed card at the turn of the year.

McComb’s manager Jamie Conlan confirmed a title shot awaits and revealed Dee Walsh trained duo Padraig McCrory [11(5)-0] and Lewis Crocker [12(7)-0] will also be on the card.

The former worldtitle challenger told David Kelly: “We have spoken to the Commonwealth Council and they are very happy for Sean to fight for the vacant title.

“Joe Cordina has moved down to super-featherweight so that has opened up the opportunity for Sean to box for the title.

“It’s just the kind of chance we wanted Sean to have. I like the idea of him going the traditional route towards hopefully one day fighting for a world title. It has to be said that it has become harder to match Sean because people are taking notice of him and how quickly he has been progressing.”
