‘I will make him swallow that mustache’ – world champion hits out at Spike O’Sullivan
Spike O’Sullivan [30(21)4(3)] may have insulted his way into another big fight.
The big punching middleweight used his mouth to help ensure he got high profile opportunities against the likes Chris Eubank Jr and David Lemieux now seems to have annoyed the WBO light middleweight of the world.
Patrick Teixeira [31(22)-1(1)] has taken exception to the manner in which the Cork native has called him out of late and told Irish-boxing.com he would love nothing more than to ‘beat’ up his fellow Golden Boy puncher.
Indeed, the Brazilian confesses he would love to send the former Irish champion into retirement.
Suggesting the Paschal Collins-trained fighter has crossed the line, Teixeira diverted from his more usual reserved approach and told Irish-boxing.com: “He did interviews and published things challenging me, saying things you shouldn’t.”
“I’m very shy, I don’t like controversy, but in that case I couldn’t keep silent. I’ll show him in the ring. he talks a lot of nonsense and I will make him swallow that mustache.”
“I am a very humble person and he has been disrespecting me for several days. so I want to beat him up and get him out of the boxing. In fact he deserves a beating.”
The world champion would no doubt love to let leather fly in the direction, but it doesn’t necessarily guarantee the Mahon man is next in line for his title.
Irish-boxing.com understands preliminary talks have taken place and it’s a fight that Golden Boy are open too.
However, there remain questions with regard to Teixeira’s mandatory.
The world champ claims he isn’t aware as to who he will make his first defence against – although, if it is Spike, Teixeira will be happy.
“I don’t know,” he responded when asked if O’Sullivan was lined up.
“I waiting for my promoters and manager to confirm, but if O’Sullivan is a rival to me I would love to hit him. “
“I’m waiting for golden boy to give me a fight date. It doesn’t matter who the opponent is. I will be ready.”
When queried about Spike as a fighter he suggested it was time for popular puncher to call it a day.
“He had good fights and he fought many top level athletes. Now he only needs someone to retire him from boxing – and as he talks so much nonsense about me, it would be a pleasure to do him this favour,” he adds before sending a message to his Irish ‘friends’.
“A big hug to all my friends in Ireland, who send me messages of support.”
