‘I’m staying firm’ – Amanda Serrano warns Eddie Hearn after pulling out of Katie Taylor bout

Amanda Serrano [38(28)-1(0)-1] claims she is ‘staying firm’ and won’t fight Katie Taylor [15(6)-0] unless the purse reflects her worth.

The seven weight world champion looked odds on to be one half of ‘the biggest female fight of all time’ this summer.

The Brooklyn based banger was said to have agreed to fight the undisputed lightweight champion on a Matchroom pay per view card in August.

However, her manager and coach Jordan Maldonado last night confirmed she had pulled out of the clash and off a card, that will be play host to an interesting clash for Donegal middleweight Jason Quigley.

Maldonado claimed the nine time world champ had agreed to the fight on four separate occasions and said the purse for a proposed August bout was half of what was originally on offer.

As a result the on off clash is off again.

There are those who will argue the Puerto Rican fighter is making a deliberate money play, trying to force Eddie Hearn to dig back into his pockets- and the way Serrano is speaking the Matchroom boss may have to dig deep.

The 31-year-old claims she isn’t so starved that she will bite the promoters hand off, suggesting he should put something a little more tempting on the plate if he wants to make the top table female fight.

Serrano believed “by November or December of last year, those 135-pound division belts would be parading around the streets of my beautiful island of Puerto Rico, but Taylor moved up for one fight and that hurt me, because I dream of historic fights and suddenly they disappear.

“Currently, I’m being offered a very low purse, as if I was starving to death. Throughout my career, I’ve sacrificed earnings to stay active in boxing, but now my achievements speak for themselves and I’m staying firm”.
