‘Great fantasy fight’ – Claressa Shields claims size difference makes Katie Taylor clash impossible

Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields will never settle the great GWOAT debate in the ring confirms Shields herself.

A clash between the two Olympic champions turned pro leading lights would be eclipse anything that went before in terms of the female fight game.

Indeed, it would prove a match up that would be as anticipated as any that could be made at the present time regardless of sex.

However, it’s will forever remain a ‘fantasy fight’ warns American Shields.

The two time Olympic gold medal winner, who has won world titles as high up as super middleweight, points out the weight difference between her and the undisputed lightweight world champ makes it an impossible clash to make.

“Katie Taylor is a great fighter. I love her and Amanda Serrano, lets get that out of the way, but I think she is just too small and I think I am just too big,” Shields said when asked by Sky Sports about the fight.

“We are just too far apart. That’s a great fantasy fight, but the lowest I can go is 154lbs, that’s a big push, 147lbs is a bigger push, and I don’t even think Katie can get to 147lbs.

“She has always been small, she isn’t that tall, I don’t even know her to have ever been over 155lbs…. so?

“I can’t make 140lbs, I think I can make 147lbs, but you never know till I am motivated and pushed to have to go down there.”
