July All-Irish show a no go
The all Irish show proposed for Belfast and July won’t be taking place.
Last month MTK Global vice president Jamie Conlan revealed his company had planned to return with their #MTKFightNight series in Belfast.
The card was to include the likes of Paddy Gallagher, Padraig McCrory, Lewis Crocker and Irish-boxing.com believes a bout between Declan Geraghty and Joe Fitzpatrick had been agreed.
Excitement grew as the call outs came in and potential domestic dust were muted.
However, the show won’t go ahead despite plans for a show a month starting next month.
Conlan has confirmed the first few shows are set to take place in Britain, meaning any hopes of Carl Frampton and Michael Conlan sharing a bill in Belfast in August are also gone.
It’s not that MTK didn’t want to come to back to Belfast, they did, but logistics got in the way.
During the current pandemic its appears easier to follow British Boxing Board of Control guidelines in England, Scotland or Wales.
The TV element also seems to be an issue. The shows are to be broadcast via Youtube and on ESPN+ in America and shipping over the television equipment required is a problem.
Irish fighters will still appear on the show, Conlan has hinted Sean McComb versus Craig Evans will happen in July and Lewis Crocker is being lined up for a 50-50 fight.
The news means the proposed Waterford show being planned for late August or September may be the first back on these shores.
Celtic Clash 11 looks set for Belfast towards the end of the year. MTK may run a show in the city beforehand, but not in July or August.
