American Nightmare – injury forces Victor Rabei out of US debut fight

Injury has forced Victor Rabei [8(2)-0] out of his American debut this weekend.

Having signed with Star Boxing the Moldovan Dub was set to trade leather in New York on Saturday.

‘Slick Vic’ was penciled in for a step up fight and was set to trade leather with American Omar Bordoy [9(3)-1] at the Mass Mutual Center, Springfield.

However, the Slater Sports managed fighter hurt his ankle in the build up to the fight and has been forced to withdraw.

“Unfortunately I have had to pull out of my fight this weekend in New York.

“A few days ago I injured my ankle and I’m unable to fight. I am absolutely gutted as this was a fantastic camp for me and I put every ounce of my energy into this and I was prepared for a fantastic fight and a great opportunity in America.

“I await the results of the scan on my ankle but hopefully it will not be too severe and I will be back to continue camp in a few weeks.

“My management team Slater Sports Consultancy have gotten a new a new fight date in the new year and my American debut will be rescheduled and the earliest date. These two dates will be announced shortly.

“Thank you Star Boxing for the opportunity and I look forward to a big 2020 together.

“To Omar Bordoy jr I know you prepared for a great fight too and I apologise for not being able to go to war with you this weekend but unfortunately this is boxing. Omar, stay ready because 2020 I’m coming back for you and we will go to war,” Rabei said online.

Irish-boxing.com understands the damage done to the ankle isn’t too bad and that fight has been rescheduled and should play out in February at the latest.
