‘I won this fight, no doubt about it’ – Craig McCarthy wants Chris Blaney rematch
Heartbroken Craig McCarthy [7(2)-0-1] wants to right what he feels was a boxing wrong by remtaching Chris Blaney [12(3)-2(0)-2].
The Waterford favourite went 10 bloody rounds with his Navan counterpart in Bolton on Saturday. The BUI Celtic middleweight title was on the line, but went back to the BUI offices in Dublin City rather than either of the challenger’s homes.
The 160lbs title clash was scored a draw much to the frustration of ‘Built2Last’.
The Steven O’Rourke-trained fighter believes he won the fight by two rounds at the very least and is desperate to do it again.
“I’ve scored it five rounds to me, three to him, and I could have gone six rounds to two. I won this fight no doubt about it,” McCarthy told Irish-boxing.com.
“It’s heartbreaking not getting the title. My heart was ripped right out if I’m totally honest. We are still undefeated but it still hurts me bad. I wanna make it right,” he adds before revealing his more than dreaming of a rematch. “
“I’m praying for a rematch. I’m dreaming of a rematch in fact I’ day dreaming about a rematch.”
If a rematch does happen, McCarthy believes it should play out in front of an Irish crowd and also believes the bout should be upgraded to an Irish title fight.
“Irish fans needs to see this fight. It needs to be on Irish soil and for the Irish title. We would sell out any venue. Every wants to see blood, guts, and glory.”
Speaking after the fight, McCarthy also praised Blaney and heralded him as a warrior – although he reiterated his belief he won the bloody clash.
“Fair fucks to Blaney he is one tough man, damn he’s tough! I nearly had him gone once or twice I felt, but he is a fucking warrior. No disrespect to Chris he put in the fight of his career, as I did, but he lost that fight the title should be here with me.
“But we are both safe and healthy and that’s what really matters after an eight-round war. It’s lovely to know I can go to them dark place and keep rising. I’m happy I’m resting recovering and I’ll be back with a bang as always.”
“Thank you to everyone I love you all.”
