50/50 fest – Conlan tells February 1 Ulster Hall fighters to be ready for tough fights
Jamie Conlan has told the participants of the first #MTKFightNight of 2020 to expect to be in 50/50 fights.
The fight series has provided some of the best derby match ups in recent years, whilst within reason, prioritizing entertainment over guaranteed victory for their stable – and it looks like that trend will continue.
A strong line up of emerging talent has been confirmed for the February 1 Ulster Hall card and Conlan suggests a strong line up of opponents will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Speaking even before Boxing Ireland confirmed they will run the tenth show in a Celtic Clash series renowned for the all Irish domestic dust up, in the same city on the same night, Conlan was promising 50-50 and trade fights for the ESPN+ and IFL TV broadcast card.
“We want proper 50-50 fights and good trade fights on this card. Ulster Hall is an iconic venue in Belfast, and it’s a venue where every seat is good.
“The fighters can feel the energy of the crowd and it’s produced some fantastic fights in 2019,” said Conlan before waxing lyrical at about some of the prospects at MTK’s disposal.
“We’ve got a new breed coming through in Belfast, and this card is giving opportunities to those who I believe will be the future stars.
“It gives these guys an opportunity to go out and make a name for themselves and become huge names in the city, so we can’t wait to be back at the Ulster Hall on February 1.”
A brilliant fight between Gary Cully and Joe Fitzpatrick is being muted as a possible bill topper, while Sean McComb is back in action, following his hard-fought win over Emiliano Dominguez Rodriguez back in October. The card will also feature the return of Steven Donnelly, fresh off the back of his superb victory in Ultimate Boxxer in September.
Padraig McCrory looks to build on his impressive win over Steve Collins Jr for the BUI Celtic super-middleweight title in his last outing.
Rising star Pierce O’Leary stays busy with another date, plus Taylor McGoldrick, Callum Bradley, Ruairi Dalton and Dee Sullivan round up a packed undercard.
