4Thumps Irish Boxing Podcast – Episode #3

“It’s not how many times you fall, it’s how many times you get back up.”

Stupid cliche, right? Not for boxers who go through motivational quotes like Roy Keane through sparring partners.

Matthew Macklin is one of those guys.

Three world title fights, three defeats, one gut-wrenching robbery, one valiant knockout against a pound-for-pound king, another against… well the less said about human wrecking ball Gennady Golovkin the better.

No, Macklin remains about the fight and sees no reason why he can’t be fourth time lucky.

The journey begins again on Saturday night as big-time boxing returns to Dublin.

The 3Arena, the old O2, the old old Point Depot will host Macklin v Jorge Sebastian Heiland in a WBC world middleweight title eliminator.

Damaged goods after the Jose Yebes fight in September? Or a fighter on his way to major nights, Miguel Cotto and that Holy Grail?

Saturday will be an indication but here, the Road Warrior / Tipperary Tornado / (insert preferred nickname here) tells 4Thumps he is feeling back to his best and ready to put on a show.

And that’s not good news for Mr Heiland.

We also discuss Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan who shared quite a tender moment with Anthony Fitzgerald before slaps were thrown and lash through the rest of the card, 4Thumps style.

What else ya want? Well, what else ya got?
