4Thumps Irish Boxing Podcast – Episode #2
“As Mike Tyson says, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.”
So says 4Thumps guest Pajo Hyland, who’s fighting John Simpson in Dublin’s 3Arena on November 15.
And it’s a month when the best-laid plans will fall apart for some and come into place for others. We’ll find out when lads start punching each other in the face.
Often in boxing the big fights are easy for the astute to call (that’s why we’ve got Eric here!), but us fans love it when brave matchmaking throws up a pick ’em or two.
November will deliver in that aspect. Pundits are split worldwide on Bernard Hopkins v Sergey Kovalev in their world light-heavyweight unification bout.
Closer to home, no one’s going out on a limb in an effort to predict the outcomes of Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan v Anthony Fitzgerald or Ian Tims v Michael Sweeney.
Our panel of Kevin Byrne, Ciaran Gallagher and Eric Donovan does its best to weigh up the merits of each fight and finds itself sitting on that goddamn comfortable fence more often than we’d like.
We bring you interviews with Fitzgerald, his trainer Seamus Macklin, Hyland and John Joe Nevin, who’s also on the November 15 card as he continues his recovery from a horrific double leg break last April.
Anything else? Oh, we also chime in on Jason Quigley’s latest victory Stateside and former Ireland team-mate Sean Turner joining him at 3-0 on this side of the water.
What else we got? What else you lookin’ for!?
