Cut prevents McLaughlin claiming first career title
Micheal McLaughlin was prevented from claiming his first career title as a result of a clash of heads on Saturday.
The Donegal native and Shakha Moore, ended their intriguing New England Welterweight championship bout early with a no contest due to an unintentional headbutt moments into the fourth round.
The clash of heads opened a severe cut directly over McLaughlin’s eye, the fourth round coming together of heads was the second cut causing clash of heads.
The ringside doctor immediately called the bout to a halt, therefore forcing the no-contest. Had the bout continued to the conclusion of the round, it would have gone to the scorecards. McLaughlin, from Donegal, now living and fighting out of Boston, boxed well in the first two stanzas, but the slick, experienced Moore began to find his range in the 3rd before the clash of heads.
The outcome was no certainty, and hopefully the bout can be made again as the No Contest leaves the New England welterweight title vacant.
