3 Facts About Boxing You Should Know

If you are an aspiring boxing fan or you are thinking of betting on the sport, there are three things you should know. The knowledge will help you become a well-informed supporter. If you are into gambling, the information will help you make informed decisions when placing a bet.

What are the three facts you should know?

Boxing is One of the Oldest Sports

Do you know that boxing is one of the oldest sports in the world? According to scholars, the first boxing event can be traced back to 3000 BC. It would later become part of the Greek Olympics games in 688 BC. Therefore, boxing has a rich history, which also explains why it is one of the most admired sports in the world.

The history means that boxing surpasses a large percentage of the games found today in age. This includes football, tennis, cricket, and casino games such as craps and Baccarat.

Boxers Compete in Classes

In boxing, players compete in classes distinguished by weight category. At the moment, there are 17 classes recognized by governing bodies across the world.

The mini flyweight category is the least of the classes, and the boxers are required to have a minimum of 150 pounds. The maximum level is the heavyweight category for boxers weighing 200 pounds and above.

The classes apply for both amateur and professional levels. However, only 10 of the classes are allowed in amateur boxing. This is because the level is open to children and other adults who are starting out or just want to box for fun.

However, the 17 classes apply in professional boxing since it is a level meant for experts.

The Winner can Be Determined in the Ring or By Judges

The winner in a boxing match may be decided by the boxers or by a panel of judges.

While in the ring, the goal of each boxer is to knock the opponent down. In professional boxing, boxers attempt to achieve this in 12 rounds. If one of the boxers manages to knock out their rival within this time, they are declared the winner.

However, there are times when the boxers complete all the rounds with any of them knocking the other out. This occurs when the two opponents are equally matched. In such fights, the winner is decided by a panel of judges. They award points to each of the boxers, and the one with the highest points becomes the winner.

Therefore, if you are planning on betting on a boxing match, consider the probability that it might be decided by persons outside the ring.

In conclusion, boxing is older than many sports and casino games, among them Baccarat. Boxers are divided into weight classes, and they can only compete against an opponent in that category. Boxing is a sport that can be determined by the boxers if they manage to knock out each other. Also, the winner may be decided by a panel of judges should a match end in a draw.
