Alan Donnellan returns to action with a win on ‘The Future’ show
After over a year of inactivity, super middleweight Alan Donnellan returned to the ring with a win tonight at the National Stadium in Dublin.
The Galweigan fought Gabor Zsalek of Hungary on the FS Promotions/Hatton Promotions card, and secured a comeback victory to kick off the card .
The Mark Dunlop-promoted Tribesman began calmly, controlling with his jab and getting in some good body work. The second saw Donnellan bring his left hook into action and up the pace.
The 29 year old scored with some ramrod lead rights in the third but Zsalek showed he is a live threat with a respect-earning hook.
In the fourth Donnellan knocked out the Central European’s gumshield with a huge uppercut, but Zsalek then had a strong finish.
Going into the fifth round the Hungarian was starting to look increasingly ragged and Donnellan targeted the body as he sought to force the stoppage.
The final round saw Zsalek start quick but the Irishman quickly regained control and went hell for leather for the knockout until the final bell.
A good comeback display, Donnellan was awarded the win on a 60-5 scoreline.
The win sees Donnellan improve his professional record to 9(2)-3(0), while his Central European opponent drops to 11(6)-36(24)-2.
With the rust shaken off, Donnellan can now begin to get active again and perhaps even aim to move down 8lbs to the packed Irish middleweight division.
