Mick Conlan: “I know ways I could beat Frampton”
Mick Conlan claims a World title fight in against Carl Frampton in Ireland would be a ‘dream fight’.
The World gold and Olympic bronze medalist signed a promotional deal with Top Rank this week and will debut in Madison Square Garden on St Patrick’s Weekend.
The brother of current Commonwealth super flyweight champion Jamie Conlan wants to be moved fast and, although he has some way to go before reaching the elite level which two-weight World champion Frampton arrived at this year, the fighter who has always been bold and forthright with his goals has targeted a clash with ‘The Jackal’ down the line.
“Carl is probably Ireland’s greatest fighter ever at the minute. I want to surpass that obviously,” said Conlan when asked about the fight by the BBC.
“He’s someone I would love to fight.”
“That’s miles from me at the minute but hopefully one day it happens.”
“It would be amazing for Belfast and amazing for Ireland.”
Indeed Conlan has already began to visualise defeating his fellow Belfast man, and described how “I see his style and a great style. He’s so strong. I know ways I could beat him so obviously I want to fight him.”
“You need to have goals, you need to set goals in life to reach things.”
“That’s one of my goals, to come back here and fight Carl, or even in America.”
“I know that’s a long way off, by that time Carl could be finished boxing.”
“But whatever happens, he’s a great champion and I’d love to fight him.”
