British Board order big title fight between McCarthy and MGM ‘Monster’
Big Tommy McCarthy has secured a big title fight.
The British Boxing Board of Control has sanction a Celtic title clash between the Belfast puncher and Scotland’s Steve Simmons.
McCarthy’s manager Pat Magee had been pushing the British Board to order the bout in recent weeks and today the governing body obliged.
The undefeated former Irish amateur champion and International will challenge Simmons, who is managed by Dublin owned management company MGM, before February is out.
There have been suggestions that the clash will take place early February, sparking rumours it could play out on the February 6 National Stadium MGM Promoted fight night.
Meaning McCarthy could claim his first pro title at the same venue he claimed all his amateur crowns.
The fight will be Simmons, who is the only ever Cruiserweight BBBofC Celtic Champ, first defence since he beat Micheal Sweeney to take the strap.
Between now and the February dust up McCarthy’s team might push for the clash to also be confirmed as a British title eliminator.
